Bill Baugher earned his doctorate in food science back in 1971, from Cornell University. He’s put it to good use, working with Proctor & Gamble, PFW, Inc. (a subsidiary of Hercules, Inc.), and Universal Flavor Corporation. He founded the Blue Mountain organization in 1988.
Throughout his long career, Bill has demonstrated his love and his talent for research, especially related to the field of flavor. Though the development of flavors is complex, Bill’s career has highlighted his knack for cutting through clutter to discover fresh, innovative, yet practical solutions.
That means, in short, he’s very good at what he does. And what he does today is lead a successful, growing company. Blue Mountain serves an international customer base with a broad product line of savory flavors, most kosher certified. The company’s extraordinary combination of technical expertise, business savvy, exceptional response time and dedication to ongoing innovation position it for continued success in our highly competitive 21st century global business world.
Among Bill’s many areas of expertise: advanced reaction technology. “Most people in the industry are quite familiar with reaction technology,” says Bill. “We use it to mimic reactions that take place on the cellular level when food is cooked.” The result is a product with the flavor and aroma of “the real thing.”
But that’s just where Bill and the Blue Mountain team get started. “We’re a technology driven company,” he explains. “Old flavor system concepts don’t work as well anymore. So our work here focuses on innovation: new techniques, new concepts, new flavors, new levels of efficiency. We put technology to work to discover unique, exciting new opportunities for our customers.”
Bill and Blue Mountain also put technology to work in the areas of turnaround and response. “If there’s anyone who can consistently deliver results faster that we can, I don’t know who they are. We deal in hours and days, while others talk weeks and months.”
Bill’s leads a highly motivated team of flavor industry professionals. “We have a genuine passion for what we do here at Blue Mountain,” says Bill. “We’re a highly experienced group of people who really enjoy what we do – and we think it shows.”
